Recurring problems with the panoramic sunroof VW, Audi, Skoda, Seat

The panoramic sunroof fitted to VW, Tiguan, Audi Q5, Skoda Yeti and many other models of the aforementioned brands is subject to a number of recurring problems, which I’m going to try to resolve in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible.

There are 5 recurring problems (not exhaustive):

  • water infiltration.
  • locking the sunroof.
  • sunroof blinds loose, worn or broken.
  • the movement of the sunroof does not correspond to demand.
  • damaged sunroof net.

1 Water infiltration.

Of all the recurring problems with the panoramic sunroof, this is undoubtedly one of the most annoying. To solve the problem that’s turning your vehicle into a swimming pool, you need to pinpoint its location and determine the cause. Water infiltration is a fairly complex problem, as it can have a number of different causes:

Cracked, broken sunroof frame.

In this case, the best thing to do is to change the sunroof frame. The maneuver is complicated and costly, but it’s largely doable with the right methodology, and if the opportunity arises I’ll be sure to put together a tutorial for the job.

The drain pipes are clogged.

Drain pipes

In this case, a simple unclogging is all that’s needed. You can find the procedure by clicking >>. <<

Pipes are worn.

All you have to do is replace the old pipes with new ones. The method is >>. <<

The pipe is pulled out of the sleeve at the water outlet.

Depending on the model, behind the wheel arch at the rear, and behind the left-hand jar at the front for the Tiguan, for example.

The joints are showing signs of fatigue.

At the very end of the cycle, it may be in a beating position, at which point you can try greasing as I explain in this article.

The motor may be lost and no longer know its reference positions (closed, open).
In this case, resetting is effective in many cases, but sometimes it’s not enough to solve the problem.
To this must be added manual operation of the blind to bring it into the closed position for handling.
the awning’s manual drive is located directly on the motor.
Find out how here.
